Craigslist.org (CL) is probably one of the most trafficked websites on earth. This is a free add site founded by Craig Newmark. It is a free community where anybody can post an ad for products or services that they are into. Since the early days, the site has grown in leaps and bounds to all the major cities around the world, giving people who advertise there a worldwide reach, fast and instantly. The site doesn’t have any fancy graphics on it; in fact, it is (my apologies Mr. Newmark) very ugly and boring with nothing on it but tons of text ads but make no mistake: the site is very powerful since your ad gets seen all around the world. This gives any smart entrepreneurs the opportunity for unlimited income.

Making money on CL can be stripped down to two simple techniques:

1.      You can sell your own products or services.

2.      You can sell other people’s products or services.

Setting up a CL account is very easy. First, just go over to CL, enter your email, and fill out any other forms necessary. This usually takes only minutes, and the system will send you an e-mail just to verify that you are a real person. But when you want to post, they may require phone verification as well. This is no problem: the system calls you to give a four digit code that you can use to do your posting. This is to help make sure that you are not a hacker or spammer using a robot or some other kind of software that is trying to throw up irrelevant ads in the wrong places.

Remember what I said initially: when you want to promote anything be sure to do your research. You can use google.com/trends to find out what people are searching for or the trends that are current. To do this, you use Google’s search tool: google.com/trends.

CL is filled with lots of cities. How do you know in which city to post your ads? All you need to do is go to googl.com/trends and enter the website you want to search information for like craigslist.org and the search engine will present you the top ten most trafficked cities on CL. This allows you to know where your target audience is hanging out, and you can find products to promote from click bank, commission junction. and link share. It doesn’t matter where you get the information but make sure that it’s what people are looking for.

After you have put up your ad, remember to give it a good and catchy headline and then you need to write a little ad content to go with your product link. To do this, I usually use the technique ‘AIDA’:

A - Attention

Here your headlines will create the attention that you need. You just have to be creative and put up a headline that is eye catching, something that will stop anybody in his or her tracks. Instead of clicking away, the person will pause to take a closer look at your ad.

I - Interest

Now that you have their attention, your next task is to create interest for your service or product within them. You let them know that this is the place that they will get the information that they are searching for or the answers to their problems.

D - Desire

As they are busy reading, you add another level to the whole mix by carefully creating desire by making it clear to them that your service or product is what they really need as well as giving them the reasons why your product or service is what they need to solve whatever problem they have.

A - Action

Then take action: you tell them exactly what they need to do next in order to obtain your product or service. If possible, spell it out for them step by step. Make sure your instructions are to the point and make it clear and easy for them to follow. Do not leave any room for doubt.

These are the four criteria that you need to keep in mind when writing your ad. In addition, you can also upload pictures. This is sure to make your listing stand out and draw more attention. You can also post ads on CL that you can have drop-shipped to your customers.
